National Water Services Commission (SPAN) will be organising a Fun Run programme for the second time this year with the theme “Water is Life Run 2020”.
The event, to be held in conjunction with World Water Day which is celebrated on March 22, will take place on April 11 at Dataran Hibiscus, Anjung Floria Putrajaya, from 6am to 10am.
The programme is one of SPAN’s initiatives to increase the community’s awareness regarding the importance of protecting and preserving water sources as well as the practice of water conservation.
As of 2018, the average domestic water consumption per person in Peninsular Malaysia and Labuan was at around 226 litres per day compared to the target of 180 litres per day by 2020.
Moreover, the users main source of water derives largely from rivers at 82%.
SPAN is hoping that through this run, it will create a sense of awareness among participants on the importance of protecting and preserving water sources.
In addition, the run aims to develop a physically, mentally and emotionally healthy community with the hopes that it will encourage people to connect and interact with SPAN staff and other agencies involved.
The run, which is targeting some 2,000 participants, is open for registration to the public in two categories – 5km and 10km.
