TOPPING the Recurve Bow Girl Under-12 category in the YB Seputeh Cup 2019 International Archery championship landed Nur Hanani Izzati Mohd Sayu a hat-trick of titles in her archery career.

The 11-year-old lanky lass was all smiles after winning her third gold at the inaugural championship held at SK Bandar Baru Sri Petaling 2, Sri Petaling Kuala Lumpur.

“It was a fantastic experience and I would like to join the championship next year again if given the chance. The competition was challenging but I enjoyed it.

“The other two golds I won are also from inter-school archery competitions,” she said.

The YB Seputeh Cup 2019 was divided into eight categories, with individual and team events for Under-10 and Under-12 boys and girls.

The tournament was played in a round-robin format with the top 32 archers progressing to the knockout rounds. Organising committee president Mohd Rizuwan Toharuddin said the championship attracted 300 participants, with a team each from India and Indonesia also competing.

“The event jointly organised by Seputeh MP Teresa Kok’s office and the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) was successful

“Before the event, we also established the Seputeh Parliamentary Archery Centre with funding from Kok’s office to benefit the students in the constituency. Currently, we have about 50 members,” he said.

Kok, who was present at the closing ceremony, said the championship provided a platform for students to practice archery.

“This is a new and unique programme that enables youngsters to be involved in archery and prevent them from engaging in social ills.

“I am glad to see the athletes energetic and having passion for the sport,” she said.

The championship saw two teams from Kedah dominate the recurve Boys Under-10 Team category by grabbing the top two spots.

The Kedah squad was also impressive in the recurve Girls Under-12 Team category and boys Under-12 Team category where they clinched silver and bronze, but lost out to eventual champions Pro X Doctor Strange who bagged top spot.
