THE 2019 edition of the SIC X30 National Karting Series Rookies Cup will see 10Â children selected for development in motor racing.
The candidates between the age of eight and 12 will compete in a three-round championship, which in turn could lead to bigger opportunities under the SIC Talent Development Programme, which has supported talented Malaysians to compete in leading international series on four-wheel racing.
To ensure fairness and a level playing field, Sepang International Circuit, which is the series promoter and organiser, has restricted entry to children who are new to the sport or without any international karting experience.
The programme is only open to Malay-sians and will have candidates in a shoot out session in a trial scheduled on June 22 and 23 at the Sepang International Kart Circuit.
There, they will be joined by five graduates from the inaugural Rookies Cup 2018 – Ahmad Mikael Ahmad Shareza, Nurul Auni Nasharuddin, Sophia Zara Mustaffa Kamal, Hendra Ade Putra Priyanto and Adam Harris Jeffry.
Meanwhile, the top five finishers in the Rookies Cup 2018 – Putera Hani Imran Halim, Putera Haikal Hakeem Halim, Aldrin Jiacheng Foo Cabiles, Putera Alex Qiefli Esam and Raja Ariff Raja Azmi – were promoted to compete in the Cadet category in the IAME Series Asia 2019.
The three-round Rookies Cup, which is run together with the three rounds of the SIC IAME Series Asia, opens in Sepang International Kart Circuit on July 6 and 7 before comtinuing in Langkawi for its second round on Aug 3 and 4.
The final round will be held on Sept 14 and 15 at Sepang International Kart Circuit.
