MALAYSIAN Aesthetic Group Gymnastic Association (Magga) deputy president Datuk Radha Krishnan has officially announced that Malaysia will host the next Aesthetics Group Gymnastics World Cup here in Kuala Lumpur in 2020.
Magga representatives had left for Spain last week to submit the bid to the world governing body, International Federation of Aesthetic Group Gymnastics or IFAGG.
“I am extremely pleased to make this announcement because having received this honour after only a few years of developing the sport in Malaysia is truly an accomplishment.
“What comes as a greater honour is winning this bid after a close fight with countries like Estonia and France, who have been developing this sport for a longer period,” said Radha.
“Malaysia will now play host to 30 countries around the world and over 1,500 participants.
“This is a testament of our promise to promote sports tourism through this wonderful sport.
“It will not be easy to organise such a big global event but I will give my own personal assurance that we will make Malaysia proud and will strive to do a great job in organising a world-class sporting event in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2020 next year,” he added.
Last week, Magga presented performance incentives to their Malaysian contingent who brought home two gold, two silver and one bronze medal
after participating in the world championships in Singapore last month. More than 800 participants from 20 countries took part in the event.
