Azroy shows his calibre

Azroy on his way to winning the CP150 qualifying round.

RACER Azroy Hakeem Anuar gave an energetic performance in the quest for a hat-trick victory when he clocked the fastest time in the CP150, qualifying at the third round of the Petronas Malaysia Cub Prix Championship at the Tangkak Race Track in Johor.

The Idemitsu Honda Yuzy Racing rider clocked the best time of 44.174 in the 12th lap to beat Mohd Iqbal Amri Malek (AHM Motorsports Yamaha Racing) who previously led the pack with his best time of 44.242.

Mohd Akid Aziz (Petronas Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor) clocked the third fastest with 44.384, while Mohd Aiman Tahiruddin (Petronas Sprinta Yamaha – CKJ Racing) and Akid’s teammate Mohd Haziq Mohd Fairues made up the five fastest qualifying sessions with 44.480 and 44.524.

“The competition at the Tangkak circuit was quite difficult as other riders showed their true calibre.

“In addition, the track’s condition was a little off-putting as there were uneven parts in some corners,” said Azroy.

The first and second winner of the first and second round said he did not want to think about a third consecutive win as he did not want to feel pressured by it.

“What is important is that I need to give the best and stay consistent in each round,” he added.

Over in the CP115 qualifier, Mohd Adib Rosley (Motul Yamaha YY Pang Racing) dominated the field with his best time of 46.167 while second round winner Mohd Syafiq Rosli (Petronas Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor) maintained his form with a performance that earned him the second spot with 46.176.

Adib’s teammate, Fareez Afeez Abd Rahman, emerged the fastest third rider after clocking 46.303.

Meanwhile, the opening round winner Mohd Zaki Zamri (MOS William #LLRKS CYT Racing) will start the final race of the Wira category from pole position after being the fastest in the Shootout qualification with 46.486.

He starts ahead of Mohd Adib Mohd Asri (ELF Koyoko Honda KC Racing Team) in second (46.621) and Mohd Adam Haikal Jahar (Petronas Sprinta Yamaha – 31 Racing) in third who clocked 46.794.
