GRAND Hyatt Kuala Lumpur emerged as champions at the recently concluded Inter Hotel Champion Football Cup Challenge, which saw participation from 21 teams at the Stadium Pancarona in Putrajaya.

They defeated Concorde Shah Alam 4-2 on penalties, after the match was tied 1-1 after extra time to claim the Gemba Trans and Tours Sdn Bhd Cup and 100Plus Cup along with a cash prize of RM10,000.

Both teams showcased good skills and were evenly matched in the finals. However, Norefendle Nor Azman of Grand Hyatt was able to take advantage of an opportunity to give his side the lead in the first half.

Concorde Shah Alam entered the second half with more zest and were in control of the game, but their opponent’s resolute defence made it difficult for them to score. However, they managed to equalise via Wan Mohd Dzul Affizi after a swift counter attack move to make it 1-1.

The scoreline stayed that way even after extra time, forcing a penalty shoot-out which saw the KL side’s goalkeeper Nasri Aliudin turn hero as he saved the final spot kick.

Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa finished in third place while Seri Pacific Kuala Lumpur took fourth.

Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur employees also swept all the special awards with Muhammad Syathori Awang Long taking the Golden Boot and Most Valuable Player while Nasri was named Man-of-the-Match for his heroics in the final.

The football carnival is one of the annual sporting events held for hotel workers and was organised by Zuhas Sports with 100Plus as gold sponsor and Gemba Trans and Tours Sdn Bhd as the tournament patron.
