JUSTICE of the Peace (JP) Klang will hold its Unity Run 2018 on Dec 9 in conjunction with Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s 73rd birthday with the aim of fostering the spirit of unity and cooperation among Malaysians.
The Council of JP Klang chairman Datuk Steven Tee said they were expecting about 3,000 participants this year as they shift the event to Taman Rakyat, a favourite venue for runners.
The run will have nine categories, including the disabled (OKU) category.
“Last year, we had 50 participants in the OKU category and we are targeting 100 this year,” he added.
Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik and Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu will be present to launch the event. The organisers are still in the process of confirming Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman’s attendance.
“The Family Fun Run category is packaged for the participation of husband, wife and two children,” said Klang district sports association secretary G. Mohan.
“A timing chip will be given to all participants from all categories except for the Fun Run,” he added.
Each participant is entitled to an official event T-shirt, bib number and timing chip (except for those in the Fun Run category).
“We are awaiting approval from the Klang Municipal Council (MPK) for the proposed route. The route is very simple. We have acquired cones from Puncak Ventures to direct the runners on event day.
“Runners are required to keep to the left side of the lane to not cause obstruction to other walkers,” he added.
Race kits will be available for collection on Dec 8, with details of collection venues to be given via email or SMS.
Those who are not available to collect the race kits on the designated day can opt for courier service. Entry fees range from RM2 to RM60.
