THE recently concluded nine-a-side hockey tournament saw Club Aman clinching the “Tandoor Grill Challenge” trophy, while Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) took home the “Late Sardar Sewa Singh Challenge” trophy.
The tournament, known as the Ipoh Lads International Veterans Hockey Carnival 2018, was held at the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Stadium in Ipoh for the seventh time.
Club Aman from Kuala Lumpur won for the Veterans Above 40 category, while UPNM, also from Kuala Lumpur, were the winners for the Veteran Masters-Above 50 category.
Ipoh Lads deputy president Jasbir Singh Nannuan said the tournament was specially designed for veterans aged between 40 and 50.
He said a total of 18 teams participated in this year’s challenge.
“This is the seventh year that Ipoh Lads Hockey Club have been organising this veteran hockey tournament.
“We are planning to organise the carnival on a larger scale next year, because it coincides with the club’s 10th anniversary as well,” he added.
Jasbir said they hoped to get better support from all the teams next year, and there were also plans to invite more international teams to participate.
Among the teams that participated in this year’s tournament were Ipoh Lads HC, Dragons, Sentul SC, Zenith International School, Perlis Super Seniors, Terengganu Veteran Team, Friends of Hockey Singapore, Prince of Wales IXC, Penang Sports Club and Synergy HC.
Jasbir added that club would also be hosting its annual junior hockey tournament on Nov 3-4 with a total of 108 teams from all over the country expected to take part in the event at the same stadium.
