SEA Games gold medal winner Lim Chee Wei has graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English Language Studies from Universiti Sains Malaysia.

Penang-born karate exponent Chee Wei, 26, won two gold medals in the recent 2017 SEA Games to add to his two gold medals in the 2013 edition.

He also won a gold medal in the 2014 Asian Games and is the winner of the 2014 Malaysian Universities Sports Council sportsman award.

He attributed his achievements to his coach and said the time he spent at the university helped him grow as a person and focus on his sport as well.

“I have always been interested in the English language and pursuing a degree in this field allowed me to explore the subject.”

Chee Wei is now planning to pursue his master’s degree in the same field.

Growing up in Batu Lanchang, he picked up karate at the tender age of eight.

“When I was a child, I loved watching karate demonstrations,” he said, adding that his parents had been very supportive.

Chee Wei will be trying out for the qualifying rounds in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
