KUCHING: The 10th Sarawak Amateur Masters Open Golf Championship 2017 will take place on Sept 29, offering over RM40,000 in cash prizes, including a Toyota Fortuner and Harley Davidson for the hole-in-one winners.
To be held at the Sarawak Golf Club (KGS) from Sept 29 to Oct 1, the tournament is expected to attract over 300 golfers to compete in both the Main Open and Invited Guests categories.
The Open category will play from Sept 29 to 30, with the top 36 golfers over the two-day period playing in the final round on Sunday, Oct 1.
The Invited Guests category will play on the final day and tee-off is scheduled to start at 7am daily, on a stroke play basis.
“Based on the enrolment record between 2014 and 2017, the tournament has successfully attracted golfers from Taiwan, Brunei, Sabah and peninsular Malaysia such as Pahang, Kelantan, Melaka and Negri Sembilan.
“We hope this edition will attract golfers from throughout the country, including foreigners,” said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Masing, who is also the tournament patron, at its launch here.
Masing, who also announced his intention to take part in the competition, hoped the tournament would attract top amateur golfers in the region and helped raise the tournament’s profile in the long run.
“We hope the prizes on offer will wet their appetite (to participate),” he quipped.
Apart from the RM180,800 Toyota Fortuner 2.7 SRZ and one unit Harley Davidson Street 750 valued at RM80,000, other hole-in-one prizes on the final day include a RM15,050 Tag Heuer Carrera GMT Grande Date watch and Oris Big Crown Propilot valued at RM15,900.
Additional hole-in-one prizes worth over RM212,000 on the final day are also up for grabs and to be shared equally if there are more than one winner.
The tournament also offers hole-in-one prizes worth over RM18,000 in gold equipment over the three days, including a set of Callaway Apex Iron Set, Callaway XR Steelhead NSPRO, Fourteen PC555 Iron Set and Maruman TW Pro with Shimada Iron Set.
Entry fee for the Open event is RM300 per person (inclusive of buggy fees and GST). Closing date of entry submission is Monday, Sept 18 at 5pm.
