Sin Li Jane and Ethan Damien Goh emerge as men and women Masters winners in the Malaysian Open.

PETALING JAYA: National bowler Sin Li Jane lived up to expectations by clinching the Malaysian Open women’s Master's title after defeating Singapore’s New Hui Fen in the stepladder finals at Sunway Mega Lanes on Sunday (April 20).

Li Jane had secured her spot in the final after topping second round of eight game with a total of 1,825 pinfalls, which left Hui Fen to battle Adelia Nur Irwan for a place in the stepladder.

Hui Fen, the 2021 SEA Games gold medallist, overcame Adelia 226-206 to set up a title clash with Li Jane.

Carrying not only Malaysia’s hopes but also the spirit of her late grandfather who had recently passed away, the 32-year-old Li Jane rose to the occasion with a strong performance to beat Hui Fen 222-198 and claim the championship.

This marks Li Jane’s second Malaysian Open title, having previously won in 2016.

There was an upset in the men’s Masters category when defending champion Mohd Hafiz Zainuddin failed to retain his title after losing to Ethan Damien Goh.

It was an all-Malaysian final, with the 15-year-old Ethan representing the national back-up squad while Hafiz came from the podium squad.

Ethan, however, proved the stronger contender as he secured a 220-180 victory.

As champion, Ethan took home RM50,000 while Li Jane pocketed RM30,000 for her win.
