Natasha and Li Jane on track for glory at worlds

PETALING JAYA: National bowlers Sin Li Jane and Natasha Roslan (pic) have assured medals after storming into the semi-finals of the women’s singles event in the World Championships.

Both topped their respective groups in the second round to set up matches against South Korean bowlers at the Kuwait Bowling Sporting Club yesterday.

Li Jane was tied at 12 points with Colombia’s Clara Guerrero at the top spot after both had won four out of their five matches in Group C. Li Jane however made it to the last-four knockout stage, having amassed more pins than the Colombian.

She will take on Group A winner Hong Hae-ni for a shot at winning the singles gold.

Natasha was on fire as she topped her Group B by winning all five matches to earn 15 points.

She faces Son Hye-rin, the winner from Group D.

Two others – Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman and Nora Lyana Nastasia Kamal did not make the cut after finishing fourth and sixth in Group B respectively.

In the men’s singles, only Mohd Rafiq Ismail and Timmy Tan have qualified for the second round. Unfortunately, both are drawn in the same group, where they will play five matches, but only the winner will advance to the semi-finals.
