PETALING JAYA: The new format in the IBF World Cup from Nov 11-23 in Queensland, Australia is set to offer a tougher challenge for all the bowlers but Timmy Tan remains unfazed.
Instead, the national bowler is relishing the challenge of the ‘do-or-die’ format and can’t wait to get started.
The IBF World Cup was previously known as AMF World Cup and in this newly changed tournament, instead of having six games in the regular format, for the first time, there will be the team event in bakers format, where team members take turns bowling frames within one game.
This means that the bowlers need to be at their best from the start as they will be knocked out if they lose two games in a row.
Timmy though, remains undaunted and revealed that he preferred the new format.
“I prefer this format as we all need to fight hard from the very beginning. Unlike the old format, if you don’t bowl so well at the start, you still can make up for it in the remaining games. But this format, its do-or-die as you will be out if you lose two games in a row.
So, its good as we need to win at all costs and we need to bring the right attitude from the start,” explained Timmy.
The 27-year-old is all pumped up to do well as he will be making his debut in the tournament.
“I’ve waited a very long time to take part in the World Cup. Before this, there was no team event and I missed out on being selected for the individual event as only one male and one female was chosen.
“This time, since there is the team event as well, four of us can take part in the individual events too. I’m very happy that I was selected this time.
“The team’s preparation has been good and I’m feeling confident of our chances of doing well. Anything can happen due to this new format of match play,” added Timmy.
The others selected in the team are Rafiq Ismail, Tun Ameerul Hakim Tun Hasnul Azam and Syafiq Ridhwan Abdul Malek.
The women’s team comprise of Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman, Natasha Roslan, Sin Li Jane and Esther Cheah.
