Shaqeem calm and composed ahead of roll-off

PETALING JAYA: Youngster Shaqeem Izwan Teh Shahrul Hafiz Teh stayed on track for a top-16 spot in the International Bowling Federation’s (IBF) World Under-21 Championships in Helsingborg, Sweden.

In the men’s singles event, Shaqeem accumulated 1,365 pins with two other bowlers.

The trio will go through a roll-off to determine who will make the cut.

His composure had caught the eye of his coach and former national bowler Alex Liew.

“His form was good and he kept his composure during every shot. The last game was a bit tricky as the lane was drier than usual. Luckily he managed a double strike on the last frame to end up with the same scores as the other two to make the roll-off,” said Alex.

“Hopefully, he can make the cut for the top-16 match play.

“He has a great attitude on the lane and has a very good chance of doing well if he makes it to the next round,” he added.

While Shaqeem impressed, it was a disappointing day for teammate Megat Zaqrul Haiqal Megat Zairudin who finished 21st with 1,264 pins.
