PETALING JAYA: There’s a new kid on the block at the alley who has bowled everyone over at the Brunswick Youth Challenge at the Sunway Megalanes.
Ethan Goh (pic) is only 12 but he showed he’s not too young to make Malaysian bowling history by topping all the categories that were contested yesterday.
The Selangor boy took home the Under-13, Under-16 and Under-23 trophies, a feat never accomplished before.
The southpaw also shot a perfect game in the Under-23 stepladder final, beating Mohd Nazmi Mohd Yusof 576-421.
In the Under-16 category, he eclipsed Aiman Syahin 426-408 and in the Under-13, Ethan upstaged Aiden Lim 248-183.
Ethan, who is under the Megalanes Junior Bowlers programme, said he was just focused on all the stepladder finals and never thought about his opponents.
“I’m excited with my progress and I’m proud of myself. If I can manage to win all the categories, it shows that I’m improving,” said the Kingsley International School student.
“In all the categories, I just focused on myself. Every ball I bowled was for myself. I didn’t really think of my opponents, even though in the Under-23 category, there were some national back-up bowlers competing.
“The Brunswick Challenge will be one experience I will cherish for a long time. This is the first time I’ve actually achieved a perfect score in a competition.”
Ethan revealed that he only bowled for fun at the age of six but ended up joining the junior bowlers programme a year later.
Realising he was a natural at the alley, Ethan competed in several national and international youth events under the Megalanes team.
“I will take part in more championships and hopefully, I will be part of the national team one day. Getting the prizes from Rafiq Ismail has only spurred me to do better.”
