PETALING JAYA: Veteran bowler Alex Liew (pic) has gone from nearly missing out on the tournament proper to becoming the man to beat at the Macau Open – all in just 12 hours.

It was late on Thursday night that the 41-year-old only claimed the 39th and last ticket to feature in yesterday’s men’s Open finals after prevailing 244-180 in a one-game tie-breaker against Hong Kong’s Michael Tsang.
