Li Jane aiming for maiden Asian Games gold

PETALING JAYA: National elite bowler Sin Li Jane is aiming to strike while the iron is still hot.

With the Incheon Asian Games just 78 days away, Li Jane admits that capturing the gold would cap off a perfect year for her.

Li Jane is set to make the women’s team for the Games in South Korea from Sept 19-Oct 4.

The 22-year-old is on a roll this year, winning the National Championships in April, Euro-Med International Masters Challenge in May and successfully defended her Singapore Open title last month.

“It’s been a great first half of the year. I have three wins under my belt. It’s all going well and winning the gold in Incheon would be the icing on the cake,” said Li Jane who is ranked 10th in the Asian rankings.

“I think I’m peaking at the right time and that momentum is still with me,” she added.

Li Jane made her Asiad debut in Guangzhou, China, in 2010. It was not a successful outing as she only managed to win a bronze in the women’s team event.

“My personal target in Incheon is to win gold in the individual and team events. I hope to see it happens. Who knows, maybe I come home with one, two or three medals,” said Li Jane with a grin.

The elite squad are now undergoing centralised training for the Games.

The women’s best performance was in Doha in 2006. Then, the team bagged two golds and three silvers. Esther Cheah was the star, winning the gold in the singles and team events.

Esther also won the silvers in the trios with Shalin Zulkifli and Zandra Aziela, All-Events and Masters.

“It (2006) was a really great year for us. Hopefully, this year will be just as good, or even better,” said Li Jane.
