KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Basketball Association (MABA) have expressed hope that the national team will return much stronger by taking home three medals at the 32nd edition of the SEA Games in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, next year.

In the recently-concluded 31st SEA Games in Hanoi, Vietnam, Malaysia returned home with just a bronze medal from the women’s 5x5 team.

MABA president Datuk Seri Lee Tian Hock is optimistic that the national team can eclipse the achievement in Hanoi despite having just a year left to prepare for the biennial Games in Cambodia.

“We will come back stronger at the next SEA Games in Phnom Penh in May 2023, although we have only one year to prepare for it.

“I have full confidence in the national teams that they will be able to achieve the goal of one silver and two bronzes at the next SEA Games,” he said at the incentive presentation ceremony to celebrate the achievement of the women’s 5x5 team at the Hanoi SEA Games.

All the players were rewarded with RM10,000 each and the coaches RM15,000 each.

Meanwhile, senior player Lee Jo Rynn said they will try to improve their fitness and playing skills for the next SEA Games. — Bernama
