Basketball stars to challenge for the Seri Mutiara Cup

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Agong Cup champions, Malaysia Matrix will be out to defend their title in the 4th Seri Mutiara Cup from Oct 2-7 at the Maba Stadium in Kuala Lumpur. 

But it will not be a walk in the park for Malaysia Matrix as the organisers have invited a star-studded cast for the tournament.

The presence of Texas All Stars, comprising all star players from the Texas development league, and the 2000-2001 Australia league champions - Australia Illawarra Hawks are set to raise the level of the competition. 

The other five teams in the fray are Serbia BC Partizen, Korea KCC Egis, Macau Black Bears, Taiwan Fubon Braves and Hong Kong Eastern. 

Serbia BC Partizen are famous in Europe with their successful youth training system and this professional team is one of the suppliers of young talents for NBA.

Then, there is the reigning Asian Basketball League champions Macau Black Bears, who boast four foreigners in their line-up. 

But one should not rule out former ABL winners Hong Kong Eastern too as they be out to make their presence felt.

Taiwan Fubon Braves and Korea KCC Egis are also expected to spice up the tournament to keep the fans on the edge of their seats.

Group B: Australia Illawarra Hawks , Taiwan Fubon Braves, Hong Kong Eastern, Texas All Stars
