KUALA LUMPUR: This year’s Agong Cup basketball championships will also include the 3x3 version of the game.
The 59th edition of the championships will be held at the Gem in Mall, Cyberjaya from Dec 18-25.
The 3x3 game will feature 21 teams – 12 in men’s category and nine in women’s division.
Malaysian Basketball Association (Maba) assistant secretary Ang Chin Boon said that besides the usual five-a-side game, they have included the 3x3 as well “because the event is in the programme in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics”.
“We need to start promoting the 3x3 game because we hope to see Malaysia featuring in it at the Tokyo Olympics in three years’ time,” said Chin Boon, who was delighted with the Malaysian women’s 3x3 team finishing second behind champions Australia in the 12-team Fiba Asia tournament in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, last month.
