KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor’s men team stayed in the hunt for a semi-finals spot in the Agong Cup National Basketball Championships after completing their fixtures with two crucial wins.

After losing their first three matches, Selangor finally came to life by beating Sarawak 82-79 on Monday.

And on Tuesday, the Selangor cagers earned themselves a lifeline after edging past winless Penang 59-49 at the Maba Stadium.

With two other teams - KL and Sarawak also likely to finish with two wins from the six-team Division One, it may boil down to points difference for Selangor to finish in the top four and a place in the semi-finals.

Vincent Chong starred for Selangor against Penang, scoring 19 points while Tan Wing Jet and Kot Soon Peng added 15 and 11 points respectively.

Penang responded through Ooi Cherng Liang and Foong Min Joe who had 15 and 14 points respectively.

Meanwhile defending champions Malacca are guaranteed a place in the semi-finals after thrashing last year’s runners-up Police 78-52.

Malacca who have four straight wins will complete their fixtures against KL and are expected to remain unbeaten.
