Aaron-Wooi Yik survive scare to reach China Masters second round

PETALING JAYA: Men’s doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik survived a huge scare to book their spot in the China Masters second round.

Aaron-Wooi Yik were pushed until the end by Taiwan’s world No. 22 Liu Kuang-heng-Yang Po-han before coming away with a 23-21, 19-21, 21-19 win in an hour at the Shenzhen Arena on Wednesday (Sept 17).

The world No. 2 pair should have won the match in two games when they led 19-16 in the second game but could not hold on.

Aaron-Wooi Yik then nearly squandered a 19-14 lead in the third game before recovering just in time to claim the victory.

The duo have a tricky task next against England’s world No. 14 Ben Lane-Sean Vendy.

Lane-Vendy stunned Aaron-Wooi Yik in the Hong Kong Open first round last week and will again present a stern test.
