Singles continue to shine as Aidil clears first round with another upset win

PETALING JAYA: Men's singles shuttler Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin pulled off an impressive win over Taiwan's world No. 26 Chi Yu-jen to reach the Hong Kong Open second round.
 
World No. 43 Aidil fought superbly to come from behind to record a 15-21, 21-18, 21-15 victory at the Hong Kong Coliseum in Kowloon on Wednesday (Sept 10).
 
The independent player will next face world No. 10 Frenchman Christo Popov for a place in the last eight.
 
Popov also was in fine form as he overcame Indonesia's Anthony Ginting 19-21, 21-17, 21-19 in his opening match.
 
Earlier, Leong Jun Hao and Justin Hoh had also cleared their early rounds
 
Jun Hao knocked out Lee Zii Jia 21-16, 21-16 for the first time to justify his status as the country's No. 1 singles player while Justin upstaged Toma Junior Popov of France 21-12, 21-17. 
 
Jun Hao faces Justin in the second round.
