Su Yin all set to fight for good result in Japan

PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttler Cheng Su Yin is a fighter and she is not letting a past injury stop her from aiming high.

The 22-year-old Su Yin has fully recovered from an ankle injury, and is eager to get back on court with her partner Hoo Pang Ron at the Japan Open from July 15-20 at the Yoyogi National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. The tournament will mark their return to competition after missing out on both the Malaysian Masters and Singapore Open last month due to Su Yin’s injury.

“Our preparation has been alright so far, and hopefully, it will translate with a good result in Japan,” said Su Yin. The duo will also compete in the China Open the following week from July 22-27 in Changzhou.

More than physical readiness, the challenge is to be mentally fit for a competitive field.

“It’s always tough to get back on court after an injury but I hope to be physically and mentally ready and play consistently well.

“The field will be tough in both the Japan and China meets as all players are returning after a month break.

“The top Chinese players will be the favourites as they are more consistent.”

The other mixed pairs in the fray for the back-to-back events are Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei, Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie and Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien.
