PETALING JAYA: Women’s singles shuttler K. Letshanaa (pic) is committed to contributing a point if she is fielded at the Sudirman Cup in Xiamen, China.

The prestigious team event will be the 21-year-old’s second appearance, following her debut at the 2023 edition in Suzhou, where Malaysia clinched a bronze medal.

“I do not feel that pressure now yet, but obviously when I start to play in the match in the team event, the pressure will be there,” said Letshanaa.

“Because I have to give it my all and take a point for sure. But on a positive note, it is a very good experience for me and I have to enjoy it.

“Also, it is a good opportunity for me to be with the teammates again because I have participated in the previous Sudirman Cup as well,” she said.

For Letshanaa, whether she gets selected to play or not, staying motivated and giving her best remains the top priority.

“If I am selected to play, I think the main thing is to be motivated.

“Not to be nervous or scared but to stay motivated. As long as I give my best, I think it’s a good thing for Malaysia and for the team.

“Winning or losing are part and parcel of the sport. As long as we give our best, we wait for the good outcome,” she added.

Malaysia are in Group C alongside three-time runners-up Japan, France and Australia.

Letshanaa also shared her thoughts on the group stage draw and believes Malaysia have a good chance to progress.

“We can’t treat any ties lightly ... whether it’s Australia or France or Japan.

“We have to give our 100% so that we can have the best outcome in the group stage and advance to the next round,” she said.

As part of the national team’s final preparation for the Xiamen tournament, the Badminton Association of Malaysia organised simulation matches at the Academy Badminton Malaysia yesterday.

Letshanaa, who faced off against Goh Jin Wei during the session, said it was a valuable learning experience for her.

“I have played with her (Jin Wei) a few times and it was a good experience because she is the No. 1 women’s singles player in Malaysia.

“There are many more things I can learn from her.’’
