Jun Hao’s Indian Open dream dashed by China's Hongyang

KUALA LUMPUR: Men's singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao’s hopes of progressing further at the Indian Open came to an end after losing to China’s Weng Hongyang in the second round on Thursday (Jan 16).

Jun Hao, who carried the momentum from his impressive first-round upset over fifth seed Li Shifeng on Wednesday (Jan 15), was unable to sustain his form against Hongyang.

Hongyang needed just 44 minutes to secure a 21-18, 21-12 victory, booking his spot in the quarter-finals.

“I think maybe today I wasn’t entirely comfortable with the game plan,” said Jun Hao in a post match interview with Badminton World Federation (BWF).

“Perhaps his front court play disrupted my rhythm and affected my momentum during the match,” he added.

Jun Hao’s defeat marks the end of Malaysia’s campaign in the men’s singles event at this year’s Indian Open.
