PETALING JAYA: Men's doubles world No. 16 Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani stunned China’s world No. 8 Liu Yuchen-Ou Xuanyi to storm into the Singapore Open quarter-finals on Thursday.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin was in total control as they defeated Yuchen-Xuanyi 21-13, 21-16 in a second round match that lasted 40 minutes.

It was the Malaysian pair's third win over Yuchen-Xuanyi in five meetings.

Mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei were also through to the quarter-finals after beating Denmark’s Mathias Christensen-Alexandra Boje 21-17, 21-18 in the second round.

However, a knee injury forced Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie to concede a walkover in the middle of the third game against China’s world No. 1 Cheng Siwei-Huang Yaqiong.

The Malaysian pair had won the first game but lost the second game 11-21 and was trailing 1-11 as a struggling Soon Huat decided to throw in the towel.

Soon Huat, who won the Malaysian Masters on Sunday with Shevon, suffered the knee injury during the third game and was forced to concede the match.
