Indonesia’s Anthony out for revenge against India

CHENGDU: The memory of losing to India in the final of the last Thomas Cup Finals in 2022 is still painful for Indonesia’s Anthony Ginting.

Indonesia, who are the most successful team in the prestigious team meet with 14 titles were the defending champions and favourites but were stunned 0-3 by India.

Playing in the first singles, Anthony went down in three games to Lakshya Sen.

The 27-year-old is now out for revenge when his team take on India in a Group C clash on Wednesday.

“We know that Indonesia have a good record in the Thomas Cup and there is always pressure on us to deliver,” said Anthony.

“Losing to India in the last final was painful for me and the team.

“I was playing in the first singles and could not get a point for my team and it still hurts, to be honest.

“We are in the same group with India this time and we hope to turn the tables on them,” added Anthony.

Anthony was part of the team that emerged triumphant in the 2020 edition in Aarhus, Denmark after an impressive 3-0 win over China.

The world No. 7 is keen to repeat the success but is expecting a tough challenge this time.

“It was great to win the title in 2020 and it will be good if we can go all the way again,” said Anthony.

“But there are a lot of strong teams like China, Denmark, Japan, India and others, who will be looking to spring a surprise.
