Aaron-Wooi Yik survive close fight to reach All-England quarter-finals

Men's doubles pair Soh Wooi Yik (front) and Aaron Chia will take on Indonesia's world No. 9 Shohibul Fikri-Bagas Maulana in the All-England quarter-finals on Friday (March 15).

PETALING JAYA: Men's doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik are safely through to the All-England quarter-finals.

World No. 5 Aaron-Wooi Yik were surprisingly given a tougher time than expected by Taiwan's world No. 39 Chang Ko-chi-Po Li-wei but used their experience to prevail 21-18, 24-22 in a 46-minute second round match at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham on Thursday (March 14).

Aaron-Wooi Yik will next face Indonesia's world No. 9 Shohibul Fikri-Bagas Maulana for a place in the last four.

Shohibul-Bagas, who captured the title in 2022, stunned India's world No. 1 and French Open champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty 21-16, 21-15 to book their spot in the last eight.

Aaron-Wooi Yik hold a clear advantage over the Indonesians based on the head-to-head records as they have never lost to the latter, winning all four of their past encounters including in the final of the Denmark Open last year.
