Kian Meng-Pei Jing upset Indonesian pair to reach German Open quarters

PETALING JAYA: Mixed doubles shuttlers Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing stunned Indonesia's Rinov Rivaldy-Pitha Haningtyas to make it into the quarter-finals in a good day for Malaysia at the German Open.

World No. 25 Kian Meng-Pei Jing did well to upstage world No. 18 Rinov-Pitha 21-17, 21-19 in the second round in Mulheim on Thursday (Feb 29).

It was also a fine day for Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie and men's doubles pair Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi who stormed into the last eight.

Soon Huat-Shevon came from behind to beat Singapore's Terry Hee-Jessica Tan 8-21, 21-15, 21-8 while Yew Sin-Ee Yi overcame Denmark's Daniel Lundgaard-Mads Vestergaard 21-14, 19-21, 21-10.

Kian Meng-Pei Jing will face third seeds Tang Chun Man-Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong next while Soon Huat-Shevon will take on Indonesia's Rehan Naufal-Lisa Ayu.

Meanwhile, Yew Sin-Ee Yi will play Taiwan's Lu Ching-yao-Yang Po-han today for a place in the semi-finals.

Pros Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien however, lost 16-21, 14-21 to Gabriela Stoeva-Stefani Stoeva of Bulgaria in the last 16.
