PETALING JAYA: Men’s singles shuttler Justin Hoh just can’t catch a break from his injury nightmare.
The promising 19-year-old has seen his progress disrupted by injuries since last April.
Justin had ruptured his left Achilles tendon last April and had to be sidelined for eight months before making his return to action in November.
The injury had ended the youngster’s hopes of competing in the Cambodia SEA Games in May.
Justin picked up a right foot injury in his second outing since his return at the Indian Masters.
He was optimistic about making a full recovery in time for the Thailand Masters which starts next Tuesday in Bangkok but was dealt yet another blow after it was confirmed that he had injured his right knee.
To add to Justin’s woes, he will also be forced to miss the Asia Team Championships from Feb 13-18 in Setia Alam.
World No. 74 Justin was initially selected for the team but now he won’t be a part of the action after his latest injury.
World No. 37 Leong Jun Hao has been selected to take his place in the team.
“Justin will undergo rehabilitation and will return to court once he is cleared by the doctors,” said national coaching director Rexy Mainaky.
“We will closely monitor his situation.”
Meanwhile, world No. 15 Ng Tze Yong will be making a return from his injury in the team meet.
Tze Yong suffered a muscle tear in his lower back during the first round of the Malaysian Open earlier this month and was forced to miss the Indian Open and Indonesian Masters as well.
The 24-year-old is currently stepping up his recovery and has returned to light training on court.
As for Jun Hao, he will be out to continue his encouraging form of late.
He survived two qualifying rounds and stunned Japan’s world No. 11 Kenta Nishimoto in the first round of the Indonesian tourney before going down to home favourite and world No. 4 Anthony Ginting.
Jun Hao will next compete in the Thailand Masters before turning his attention to the Asian team meet.
The other singles players selected for the team are world No. 10 Lee Zii Jia and 18-year-old Eogene Ewe.
The doubles players called up are national No. 1 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani and young pair Choong Hon Jian-Mohd Haikal Nazri.
