Only way is up for Fazriq-Vin Sean after breaking into world’s top 100 for the first time

PETALING JAYA: Shuttler Fazriq Razif is looking forward to building on his encouraging showing with Wong Vin Sean in the men’s doubles next year.

The 19-year-old Fazriq, who is the son of badminton great Razif Sidek, ended the year strongly with Vin Sean by finishing runners-up in the Malaysian International Challenge in Ipoh on Sunday.

It was a promising show from Fazriq-Vin Sean after they had captured their maiden senior title at the Malaysian International Series last month.

“I’m happy with my progress with Vin Sean this year,” said Fazriq, who had also finished runners-up with Vin Sean in the Maldives International Series in August.

“I believe we are on the right track. We always encourage each other really well.

“The Malaysian International Challenge was our last tournament of the year and we did well overall but fell short at the end.

“We are now aiming to improve our rankings to play in bigger tournaments next year.”

Fazriq-Vin Sean have set a personal milestone for themselves after breaking into the world’s top 100 for the first time.

The pair moved up from No. 104 to No. 96 in the latest rankings, thanks to their improved performances.

Fazriq was present at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara yesterday during the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony between the Badminton Association of Malaysia and Astro Kasih Foundation for the upcoming Astro Badminton Camp (AKB) next year.

AKB provides another platform for the BAM to scout for young talents.

Fazriq himself was a participant in AKB along with Wan Arif Wan Junaidi, Aaron Tai, Bryan Goonting (men’s doubles), Jacky Kok, Justin Hoh and Eogene Ewe (men’s singles).
