Badminton: Tze Yong rises at the Asiad


Ng Tze Yong made his entry into the Asian Games quarter-finals on Oct 4.

PETALING JAYA: Men’s singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong made it a fine day for Malaysia in the Asian Games when he reached the quarter-finals at the Binjiang Gymnasium in Hangzhou on Wednesday (Oct 4).

Tze Yong, playing in his first Asiad, was composed as he outplayed Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand 21-17, 2-12 in 59 minutes.

He was the second Malaysian into the men’s singles quarter-finals as independent shuttler Lee Zii Jia also checked in after toppling world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn earlier in the day.

In the women’s singles, Goh Jin Wei ended her campaign in the third round after losing 21-6, 21-12 to Gregoria Mariska of Indonesia in the third round.
