World meet to go on without prize money

PETALING JAYA: Badminton’s prestigious tournament – World Championships will continue to run without offering prize money. Badminton World Federation (BWF) supremo Thomas Lund said it was a model that they would like maintain for few different reasons.

“BWF follow the same historical model as the Olympic Games and many other sports’ world championships where the prestige of the world title equates to the pinnacle of the sport and signifies the greatest possible reward beyond any monetary prize,” said Lund.
