PETALING JAYA: Nova Armada has no issue with the Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) new rule.
Independent players, who wish to train at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) once a week, need to either wear BAM’s official sponsor Yonex’s apparel or plain apparel.
Wong Tat Meng, who coaches independent men’s singles shuttler Lee Zii Jia, took to social media to express his frustration with the BAM over the rule on Wednesday.
Zii Jia is currently funded by Victor.
Indonesian Nova, who is in charge of women’s singles player Goh Jin Wei, sees no problems though with the rule.
“I heard about this on Wednesday when I came to ABM along with Jin Wei, Cheam June Wei, Soong Joo Ven (both independent men’s singles players) and Taiwan’s Chou Tien-chen.
“The players need to follow BAM’s rules when they are sparring in the training halls.
“There is no problem whatsoever as the players can wear plain apparel or apparel without any brands of badminton sponsors.
“They can still use racquets from other sponsors.”
Meanwhile, Nova was pleased with Jin Wei’s preparations for the World Championships in Copenhagen next week.
“Her preparations have been going well,” said Nova.
“Physically, she has been improving. I will be leaving with her today for Copenhagen.”
World No. 35 Jin Wei will open her campaign at the world meet against unheralded Hungarian Viven Sndorhazi.
Jin Wei should make it into the second round but will be up against South Korea’s world No. 1 and one of the hot favourites for the title, An Se-young, who received a first-round bye.
Se-young is in the form of her life and has captured a whopping seven titles so far this year.
On his hopes for Jin Wei in the tournament, Nova replied: “I hope she can get past the first round and take Se-young to three games.”
