Smashing time as Allianz gather media on World Badminton Day

Another success: Media personnel had a fun time during the Allianz media tournament on Wednesday.

KUALA LUMPUR: It was a perfect celebration on World Badminton Day when several local media organisations took time out from their busy schedule to fight for honour in the Allianz media tournament on Wednesday.

The fun and friendly competition, which was introduced in 2019, saw The Star team taking third sport after defeating debutants Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) 2-1 at Sports Arena Sentosa.

The New Straits Times Press (NSTP) emerged victorious after upstaging defending champions, Astro with a 2-1 win in the final while the plate final, which was introduced for the first time, was won by Sinar Harian who beat China Press 2-1.

It’s third edition of the competition hosted by Allianz Malaysia Berhad, which saw the participation of 10 teams for the first time with Bernama making their debut while Malaysiakini returning after a one-year hiatus.

The company’s chief executive officer Sean Wang, who is also Allianz badminton team captain, said the annual media tournament was an event that he looked forward to as a badminton enthusiast while at the same time, it gave the company a chance to engage with media friends away from work.

“As I always say, work hard, play hard and congratulations to all winners,” he said in the statement.
