Pearly-Thinaah aim to add variety to improve their game

KUALA LUMPUR: Pearly Tan (pic) and her partner M. Thinaah are out to add more variety to their game in a bid to rediscover their best form.

The national women’s doubles pair are seeking to bounce back after a disappointing showing in their last two tournaments – the All-England and Swiss Open.

World No. 8 Pearly-Thinaah suffered opening-round losses in both the tourneys.

“We are still lacking in consistency,” said Pearly.

“Thinaah and I have talked a lot about our performances and we believe that we have come up short strategy-wise.

“We only had plan A and B before this but now we are looking at ways to add more variety in our game.”

Pearly-Thinaah are currently preparing for the Asian Championships in Dubai from April 25-30.

The pair will open their campaign in Dubai against Thailand’s world No. 10 Rawinda Prajongjai-Jongkolphan Kititharakul.

On their target for the tourney, Pearly said: “The most important thing for us is to rediscover our momentum in this tournament. We are going all out in training to improve on our weaknesses.

“We also want to enjoy the game and take it step by step.”

Pearly has also welcomed national doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky’s initiative to add video simulation to her and Thinaah’s training programme.

Men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik will also go through this.

“This is really helpful as sometimes we can’t see what we are doing on court,” said Pearly.

“So, when we watch the videos of our matches, we can see our mistakes and improve on them.”

Meanwhile, Pearly was pleased to become the first ever brand ambassador of health supplement, VitaHealth.

The 23-year-old was unveiled as the brand ambassador in an event at the Sheraton Imperial Hotel in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

“I’m really honoured and excited to be chosen as the brand ambassador of VitaHealth,” said Pearly.

“As the ambassador, I hope to motivate and inspire the younger generation to lead a healthier lifestyle.”
