PETALING JAYA: National women's doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah kept the Malaysian flag flying high in the German Open by reaching the semi-finals in Mulheim on Friday (March 10).

In a repeat of last October's French Open final, world No. 6 Pearly-Thinaah stunned two-time world champions Mayu Matsumoto-Wakana Nagahara of Japan 21-17, 18-21, 21-11.

The Malaysian pair will take on another Japanese pair, world No. 2 Nami Matsuyama-Chiharu Shida on Saturday (March 11) for a place in the final.

Pearly-Thinaah are the only Malaysians left standing after mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei's gallant run came to an end.

World No. 43 Tang Jie-Ee Wei went down 20-22, 14-21 to South Korea's world No. 14 Kim Won-ho-Jeong Na-eun.
