Tze Yong faces tough challenge against Feixiang in second round


PETALING JAYA: Top seed Ng Tze Yong will begin his quest to win a first Badminton World Federation (BWF) tour title in a difficult second round match against Sun Feixiang of China in the Indonesia Masters in Malang today.

Feixiang, who finished runner-up in the Vietnam Open last month, defeated Syabda Belawa of Indonesia 21-10, 15-21, 21-10 to reach the second round.

“My approach is one match at a time. It is going to be a tough match against him,” said Tze Yong.

National back-up shuttlers Shaqeem Eiman Shahyar and Ong Ken Yon also advanced to the second round yesterday.

Shaqeem defeated Hendrikho Wibowo of Indonesia 21-14, 21-9 while Ken Yon overcame another Malaysian shuttler Eveshgaran Vasigaran 21-11, 19-21, 21-15.

Shaqeem will play Alap Mishra of India while Ken Yon will be up against Jeong Hyeok-jin of South Korea in the second round today.

Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin and Lee Shun Yang’s campaign came to an end in the first round yesterday.

Aidil lost 15-21, 17-21 to Christian Adinata of Indonesia while Shun Yang lost to another Indonesian Ikhsan Rumbay 20-22, 14-21.

Men’s doubles qualifying first round: Hafiz Faizal-Lau Yi Sheng (Ina-Mas) bt Denish Ganesha-Paul Simanjuntak (Ina) 21-7, 21-11; Chen Bo-yuan-He Zhi-wei (Tpe) bt Chong Ee Jack-Tan Ming Kang 22-20, 25-23.

Qualifying second round: Hafiz Faizal-Lau Yi Sheng bt Chen Boyuan-He Zhi-wei (Tpe) 21-18, 22-20.
