Jun Hao goes down to S. Korean

PETALING JAYA: National men’s singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao’s run in the Indonesian International Challenge in Malang came to an end in the quarter-finals yesterday when he went down fighting to South Korean veteran Son Wan-ho 22-24, 21-23.

It was heartbreak for 2017 Asian Junior champion Jun Hao, who was hoping to go further after reaching his first individual international tournament quarter-final of the year.

Former world No. 1 Wan-ho only returned to competitive action this year after a two-year hiatus but his experience proved to be the difference in the end.

Jun Hao now needs to pick himself up for the higher-tier Indonesian Masters which starts on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s challenge in the competition came to an end when independent mixed doubles pair Loo Bing Kun-Yap Cheng Wen also crashed out after going down 13-21, 10-21 to China’s Jian Zhenbang-Wei Yaxin. Malaysians only
