PETALING JAYA: Japan’s singles shuttler Kenta Nishimoto capped his fairytale run in his home Open with his first-ever individual title after stunning Taiwan’s Chou Tien-chen in a pulsating final at the Maruzen Intec Arena in Osaka yesterday.
World No. 21 Nishimoto, who had toppled Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie (No. 8) and Denmark’s Anders Antonsen (No. 3) en route to his first final in two years, fought brilliantly to oust the world No. 6, 21-19, 21-23, 21-17 in a match lasting 92 minutes.
