Eei Hui and Yew Sin Covid-19 positive, out of Malaysian Masters

Floored: Chin Eei Hui (right) and Ong Yew Sin (in orange) are down with Covid-19.

INDEPENDENT coach Chin Eei Hui and one of the players in her care, Ong Yew Sin, have tested positive for Covid-19 and will be out of the Malaysian Masters which begins at Axiata Arena tomorrow.

Eei Hui confirmed that she and Yew Sin’s results were confirmed on Saturday.

“Yew Sin and his partner Teo Ee Yi can’t play as they have to undergo a five-day quarantine until Wednesday,” said Eei Hui.

Yew Sin-Ee Yi reached the quarter-finals of the Malaysian Open where they lost to Fajar Alfian-Rian Ardianto of Indonesia.

They were down to play Lu Ching-yau-Yang Po-han of Taiwan in the first round of the Malaysian Masters.

This also means Eei Hui will not be able to guide mixed doubles pairs Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing and Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie in the first round.

Eei Hui may be able to guide one of the two in the second round on Thursday if she tests negative when her five-day quarantine ends on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, things are also looking good for Eei Hui to become the national mixed doubles coach although she has yet to receive an offer from the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

However, the BAM will hold their council meeting on Friday where the management could make a formal offer after that.
