Malaysian shuttlers knocked out of the Indonesia Open

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's campaign in the Indonesia Open came to an end when world No. 5 Lee Zii Jia and top men's doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik crashed out in the semi-finals at the Senayan Stadium in Jakarta on Saturday (June 18).

Zii Jia gave top seed Viktor Axelsen of Denmark a run for his money before the Olympic champion secured a 19-21, 21-11, 23-21 in 70 minutes to advance to the final.

The Malaysian started well in the match but the Dane came back strongly in the second game and third game to earn his second final appearance in as many weeks.

Axelsen won the Indonesia Masters at the same venue last week.

Aaron-Wooi Yik, however, were far from their best as they lost 21-18, 21-13 in their semi-final clash against Liu Yuchen-Ou Xuanyi of China.
