Kian Meng-Wee Kiong storm into Dutch Open final

PETALING JAYA: Independent shuttlers Tan Kian Meng-Tan Wee Kiong have reached the men’s doubles final in the Dutch Open. The duo were hardly tested in their 21-13, 21-15 win against qualifiers Eloi Adam-Kenji Lovang of Holland in the semi-finals of their first international tournament in Almere on Saturday.

Adam-Lovang had earlier pulled off an upset when they defeated their teammates and fifth seeds Lucas Corvee-Ronan Labar 21-18, 23-21 in the quarter-finals.

The sixth seeds Malaysians are expected to face stiff challenge against Singapore’s unseeded pair Terry Hee Yong Kai-Loh Kean Yean in the title match next.

Terry-Kean Yean were taken to the distance before they defeated Denmark’s Emil Lauritzen-Mads Vestergaard 14-21, 21-14, 24-22 in another semi-final match. A day earlier, they had upset top seeds AlexanderDunn-Adam Hall of Scotland 21-13, 21-12.
