PETALING JAYA: India’s Satwik-sairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty continue to make waves in the Thomas Cup.

The world No. 10 doubles pair stole one point in the Group C tie against China to show the world that they are indeed in the top league when they blew away scratch combination He Jiting-Zhou Haodong 21-14, 21-14.

China eventually won the tie 4-1 to make the quarter-finals together with India as the top two teams from the group.

The duo have shown good progress since winning the 2019 Thailand Open.

This year, Satwiksairaj-Chirag made it to the semi-finals of the Swiss Open and Thailand Open and have been a constant threat to the world’s top pairs.

Meanwhile, their world No. 28 Sameer Verma almost caused another upset when he dragged Lu Guangzu to the limit before going down 21-14, 9-21, 22-24 in the second singles.

It was the first time in 10 years that India have made it to the quarter-finals. In the 2010 edition, they lost to Indonesia in the last eight.

Their women’s team also made it to the top eight in the Uber Cup.
