Juniors can finally get into competition mode

PETALING JAYA: National junior shuttlers have a good reason to go the extra mile in the internal ranking tournament starting on Oct 12.

The top three ranked in the singles and doubles events will get to play against selected players from the senior team.

The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) have finally agreed to host a tournament for the juniors under the charge of Datuk Misbun Sidek at the Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) and Stadium Juara.

The 70 juniors have not played in any tournaments since they returned to training in batches from July.

BAM’s coaching and training committee chairman Datuk Kenny Goh said they had dangled the carrot to the juniors to make their two-week long internal tournament exciting.

“We expect the juniors to compete without holding their punches to get the opportunity to play against the seniors,” said Kenny.

National coaching director Wong Choong Hann is expected to name the singles and doubles players from the senior team to challenge the top-ranked juniors.
