KUALA LUMPUR: Men’s singles head coach Hendrawan is confident of having injured duo Lee Zii Jia and Leong Jun Hao back in full training in less than two weeks, and firing them up for the Thomas Cup Finals.
Zii Jia, 22, and Jun Hao, 21, have been undergoing rehabilitation for their respective lower back and right hip injuries after hurting themselves at the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Invitational Championships recently.
Zii Jia and Jun Hao have already resumed light skills training on court since Monday and a buoyed Hendrawan believes the pair will be fit by the second week of September.
The duo are among six men’s singles shuttlers named for the national team’s four-day motivational camp in Pulau Tioman from Sept 3-6.
“This week, they have been able to do one session of light skills training in the morning.
“Last week, they were focusing fully on their rehabs, ” said Hendrawan.
“I believe Zii Jia and Jun Hao can resume normal training once they return from our motivation camp next week.
“The camp will involve some physical training activities. Our physiotherapists and other support service team will also tag along.
“As a precautionary measure, we will gradually ramp up the training intensity for them.”
Hendrawan has confirmed that the six shuttlers selected for the camp are also the shortlisted candidates for the four singles berths in the squad for the Aarhus Finals from Oct 3-11.
Although he declined to reveal all six names, it could consist of Cheam June Wei, BAM Invitational Championships winner Ng Tze Yong, and independent duo Liew Daren and Soong Joo Ven.
“Rest assured that we will pick the best four, ” stressed Hendrawan.
“There will be a lot to ponder for the selection, for instance the player’s track record in team event as well as their head-to-head record against potential opponents.
“Once it’s finalised, the line-up will then be presented to the coaching and training committee for the final decision.”
