They are the future: Datuk Misbun Sidek with the young players at the Manjung Youth Open Championships.

PETALING JAYA: Badminton coaches in the country don’t have to look far to draw up programmes for their charges.

National Youth Development director Datuk Misbun Sidek has drawn up a series of customised training modules with a target of producing more world class athletes.

Misbun, the former national chief coach, said that the modules he had drawn up could be used by all coaches as guidelines, so they could provide training in line with the national team.

The badminton legend wants Malaysia to look for specific formulae so the country’s badminton athletes continue to be recognised globally.

“I have provided modules that had been used before to produce athletes like Datuk Lee Chong Wei and other great players who have won championships around the world,” said Misbun at the Manjung Open Youth Championship in Sri Manjung, Perak.

He further said the training modules would be his significant contribution to the sport in Malaysia. “I won’t be here forever but the modules I provided can always be used by other coaches,” he said.

Misbun, who mentored Chong Wei and played an integral part in his success, said the country had to continue sending athletes to compete abroad to stay in touch with the latest developments in the world.
