Daren may gain from Yuqi’s pain at coming China Open

On a wing and a prayer: Malaysia’s Liew Daren hopes to make it to the China Open as one of the reserves.

PETALING JAYA: Independent shuttler Liew Daren received a boost to his chances of playing in his first China Open in six years.

This comes after world No. 3 Shi Yuqi of China pulled out from the US$1mil (RM4.2mil) home Open to be held in Changzhou from Sept 17-22 after failing to get clearance from his doctors over an ankle injury.
