Badminton: No M'sian left standing at World Championship

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's challenge at the badminton World Championships has come to an end.

Lee Zii Jia and Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying were eliminated in their respecitve men's singles and mixed doubles quarter-finals in Basel, Switzerland on Friday (Aug 23).

World No. 13 Zii Jia was no match for top seed Kento Momota as he went down tamely 12-21,8-21 in just 37 minutes.

Despite the defeat, it was a solid outing for the 21-year-old, considering he's a debutant.

Earlier, world No. 5 Peng Soon-Liu Ying failed get past the last eight for the second straight year when they lost 21-18,12-21,11-21 to world No. 3 Yuta Watanabe-Arisa Higashino of Japan.
